PUBLIC ART SPOOF /// "THE NEST" /// SCULPTURE + HIPSHOT FILM /// PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN, NY

Long before the advent of digital clicks and New York's "Improv Everywhere", when ancient Candid Camera regurgitations were the only televised reality moments to be had, 'The Nest' dropped in. It took two trips to Prospect Park to gather enough curved twigs and branches to construct her, an afternoon of adhesive-less weaving to define her shape and $3 worth of Gold Medal flour and newspaper strips to give birth to her paper-mâché offspring before placing her on a white median at a believable distance from an ample oak tree. Many onlookers refused to believe that the nest was fake. Concerned passersby even alerted the parks department. (*Note the baton-poking officials in row one.)
